The question isn’t, ‘Who is going to let me?’; it’s, ‘Who is going to stop me?’.

ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ! (pronounced: Mo-lone lah-veh! Come and take them!)
-King Leonidas (of Sparta) to King Xerxes’ (of Persia) emissary at the Battle of Thermopylae, circa 480 B.C.
This is on the license plates of one of my motorcycles (the Gadsden Flag themed one). The wikipedia entry on this quotation is fairly thorough.

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.
-President Gerald Ford
This quotation is commonly, though incorrectly, attributed to Thomas Jefferson.

No matter what the law reads or what the courts say, every adult citizen is entitled to own a gun for his personal protection. No anti-gun law ever disarmed a criminal; only respectable people are rendered helpless.
-Elmer Keith, in his book Sixguns

Thanks to The Ogre for this nice quotation:
Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
– John Adams
Since there are people in government who believe our Constitution is a “living document” and can be altered at will, what’s that say about their character?

If I thought I needed [a handgun] tonight, we’d stay home.
– ZeroTA, WeTheArmed.com
ZeroTA stated in the associated thread that this was his response to his wife when she asked him, “Do you really think you need your gun here?” I agree wholeheartedly, Zero.

Colt single-action revolvers point like the finger of God.
-Anonymous
I really like the imagery associated with this quotation. I also agree. I don’t think I own a firearm that points as naturally or assertively as my old .36 caliber 1851 Colt Navy cap-and-ball revolver. After all, if they were good enough for Wild Bill, they can’t be that bad, right?

So I thought I’d create a new category of blog posts. In the past week or so, I’ve read a couple different quotations that I’ve really enjoyed. I think as I come across one I like, I’ll blog it, and if possible, reference where it came from. I may add a few of my favorites right off the bat just to get a nice queue built up. As usual, feel free to comment about them as I enjoy feedback.

The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms; history shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected people to carry arms have prepared their own fall.
After reading that quote, it kind of makes you wonder where the Obamessiah is headed with his gun control measures (read: ban) that he has stated he will attempt to enact once he’s in office.
Oh, he didn’t say that quote above, by the way. That one is all Adolf Hitler.
