WV Senate says “Screw you, Martinsburg!”

Freaking.  Awesome.

Senate Bill 621 was passed Tuesday, March 31, by a unanimous vote of 34 to 0. This is a technical clean up of the existing firearms preemption statute which prohibits local jurisdictions from imposing ordinances more restrictive than laws passed by the state legislature.

As we noted in previous alerts, the city of Martinsburg has been exploiting a provision in a section of the statute which they felt authorized them to prohibit the carrying of firearms on all city-owned property. This bill would remove the language being exploited and therefore nullify the Martinsburg ordinance. SB 621 now moves on to the House to be read and considered by the Judiciary Committee.

Thanks to everyone who might have read my blog about this and called their Senator.  We couldn’t have done it without your support!

Keep your powder dry.
